Q. What kind of gun will shoot your 90 GR. 380 Auto at 1050 FPS?
A. Any modern manufactured .380 pistol
Q. How can you be so much faster than your competitors?
A. We work harder at it. We are constantly testing different propellants. "Good'en'uff" is not good enough at Cor-Bon. We use special powders blended for us by the manufacturers. We constantly test during production to make sure that the load is up to advertised velocities. When we open up a new lot of powder or primers, we redo the load and re-test.
Q. Does Cor-Bon ammunition meet established pressure limits?
A. Every production lot is continuously monitored and checked every half hour during its production. Cor-Bon follows established SAAMI specifications. Loads not within SAAMI specifications are marked as such.
Q. Are those velocities on your boxes for real?
A. Yes; these are from real guns - S&W, Glock, SIG, Colt, Taurus etc.. Guns in use here at the plant. Many people call and note their guns give even higher velocities. We never exaggerate stated performance. We don't have to at Cor-Bon. Don't forget too, there are "slow guns" and "fast guns".
Q. Can I use your 400 CorBon ammo in my 40 S&W pistol?
A. No. It is an entirely different cartridge that happens to use the same .400" diameter bullet. Only 45ACP pistols can be converted to 400 CorBon via a new barrel chambered in 400 CorBon.
Q. Just what is the 400 CorBon anyway?
A. The 400 CorBon is a .45ACP necked down to .40 caliber (10 mm). Most any .45ACP can be easily converted to the the 400 CorBon with a simple barrel change. You can use the same magazine, rails and springs. And your gun can be just as easily converted back to the original .45ACP. Performance of the 400 CorBon exceeds the 10mm or 357 Magnum.
Q. Can any .45ACP be converted to 400 CorBon?
A. Just about. 1911A1's of all makes, Glock 21's, SIG 220's, S&W models - M645, M745, M4506, M4516, H&K USP's, Para-Ordnance, Ruger P90 to name the most popular. Don't convert old US Army .45's, they deserve an honored rest.
Q. You mean all I need to convert my 45 to 400 COR-BON
is a new barrel chambered in .400?
A. This usually is it for Glock 21, or SIG P220 pistols. The 1911 type .45’s may benefit from an 18-20lb. spring and a few need a 22-24lb. spring. Older 1911’s (series 70 etc.) may need an oversize firing pin to fit their oversize firing pin orifice plus a new firing pin spring. Don’t forget, 1911 guns have been made since the dawn of time by a jillion companies and their specifications vary all over the map. It’s up to you and your gunsmith to set up your 400 pistol properly; COR-BON has no control over it and we are not responsible for it. We manufacture 400 COR-BON cartridges to extremely stringent standards and these cartridges function perfectly in all our factory test guns which include several 1911 pistols, Glock 21’s, SIG 220’s.
Q. Can I use Cor-Bon ammo in a …..
A. No; not every gun. CorBon Ammunition is a high performance ammunition intended for use in recently manufactured quality firearms from well know quality manufacturers. Ammunition that is rated as +P should only be used in modern firearms in good condition rated for this type of ammunition. Older guns, or guns that you do not know the history of, probably should not be used unless checked carefully by a competent gunsmith.
Q. Your hunting ammo sheet lists a .45 COLT +P. Is it really?
A. No doubt about it. This .45Colt +P uses a 300gr. Jacketed Soft point bullet pushed at 1300 feet per second with 1126 foot lbs of energy. We also have 265gr load using CorBon's proven bonded bullet and a 335gr Hard Cast.
We added the +P designation to the load to act as a warning that this load is not suitable for all guns.
Q. What guns can I use the 45 COLT +P loads in?
A. We use this criteria: Any model gun that is also offered in 44 Magnum will handle the Cor-Bon 45 COLT +P loads. The 45 COLT +P loads are loaded to 75-80% of 44 Magnum pressures. It must be used in modern hunting revolvers such as the Ruger Blackhawk and Redhawk, Freedom Arms revolvers, Colt Anaconda, T/C Contender and the lever guns that can handle this cartridge's longer length.
*NOTE* Never use the Colt +P loads in old guns or COLT single actions nor any COLT clone.
Q. Can I use the 45 COLT +P loads in my S&W model 25 Mountain Gun?
A. Yes, the 45 COLT +P loads can be used in the S&W model 25 and the other modern S&W guns. You need to be sure that your gun is in good condition and hasn't had too many years of hard use. The 335 gr. Hard Cast load is probably a good choice. It operates at a little less pressure, but still packs a real whoop. New guns come out every year and the 45 COLT is a popular cartridge. If the model gun is not offered in 44 Magnum, it doesn't have the metal to handle the 45 COLT +P. The new titanium and scandium guns are nice to pack, but these are intended for self defense -- not hunting. The 45 COLT +P loads are not suitable for these guns.
Q. What about the 45 COLT lever guns? Can I use your 45 COLT +P loads in them?
A. Yes; they work great in the modern designed lever guns: the Marlin 1894, the Winchester 94, the Browning, Rossi and Winchester 92's. The 335gr. Hard Cast profile is a bit too long for some lever guns. The 265gr or 300gr loads work better. The US Cavalry black powder loads will work great in any gun.
Q. CorBon's self defense ammunition has an unexcelled reputation for stopping power. Why?
A. Stopping Power is more complicated than it sounds. An analysis of police shootings, and gelatin testing gives a percentage number relating to the number of times that only one shot was needed to stop an aggressor. We believe in this concept whole heatedly because actual results have verified it continuously year after year. Our ammunition is a top rated stopper in almost all the common self defense cartridges from 380 to 45 ACP. Stopping power is a combination of high velocity, meaning higher energy in each weight range, combined with a hollowpoint bullet that will expand rapidly, dumping all the available energy into the target. The faster this available energy is transferred into the target, the higher the stopping percentage.
Q. Will COR-BON hollow points penetrate windshields, car doors, etc.?
A. Absolutely. I’ve taken numerous police reports on shootings through windshields with our 9mm 115gr. JHP’s or our 40 S&W 135gr. JHP’s and invariably the officer said " they went right where I was aiming beyond the glass". If our JHP’s don’t hit the interior support beams in a car door they will whip through the door like a tin can. With the high velocity, you get little deflection.
Q. Can I use my 44 Magnum Sixgun for self defense?
A. Yes you can. Late fall of ‘96 COR-BON designed a new 165gr. JHP bullet in 44 caliber specifically for self defense. We load it in both 44 Special (at 1125 FPS) and 44 Magnum (at 1300 FPS). Both velocities are from 4" test guns and shoot like a million bucks from most 44 Sixguns. Don’t forget the 44 Special 165gr. JHP can also be utilized in 44 Magnum Sixguns.
Q. I am going up into brown bear country for some fishing. The only gun that I have is a .45ACP. I carry the Cor-Bon 185gr JHP in it. Will these be effective against bear?
A. The .45 ACP - no matter what it is loaded with is not a bear gun. While we understand that sometimes you carry what you have, a gun and ammunition designed for self defense against two legged critters was never intended to be adequate protection against a charging grizzly. If you have no choice but to carry this combination, recognize the limitations.
